Swimming Pool Heating
Solar pool panels are either flat-plate or evacuated tube solar water heating collectors. The versions for nonpotable pool water use are often made of plastic. Pool water, mildly corrosive due to chlorine, is circulated through the panels using the existing pool filter or supplemental pump.
How many panels do you need?
1. Calculate the surface area of your pool by multiplying the length by the breadth (l x b).
2. Divide by 3.6 & round up to the nearest whole number. e.g. length 6m x breadth 4m = 24 sqm divided by \ 3.6 = 6.66 rounded up = 7 panels.
Note: This formula is used for average pools at an average depth of +- 1.5m. Should your pool be very deep and/or in a lot of shade and exposed to cold winds it may be prudent to increase the number of panels.
Installation is however fairly simple, so it would be possible to add more panels at a later stage.
